Permitting

Prior to making a Reservation for a Starbucks Rental Store, it is your responsibility to obtain the necessary permits for the Installation and Operation of this Rental Store in your jurisdiction.  You should contact your local codes department to understand the process, restrictions and timing necessary to obtain these permits prior to making a Reservation.

Starbucks Rental Stores have been installed and have operated for many years in most jurisdictions in the United States.  Although there is no guarantee that these Stores will adhere to your local jurisdiction’s building and health codes, we have great success in the majority of jurisdictions.

The Carts that make up all Models of the Starbucks Rental Store are UL Listed in the United States and Canada.  The Carts are typically treated like a large pieces of equipment (i.e. Dishwasher, Washing Machine, etc.).

Typically, two different types are Permits are needed for the Installation and Operation of a Starbucks Rental Store – Building and Health.  High level recommendations for each type of permit is shown below.  Please note that these are just recommendations based on years of experience with these Stores in many jurisdictions in the United States.  It is the sole responsibility of the Renter/Licensee to obtain these permits.

1.

BUILDING PERMIT

The Carts that make up the Starbucks Rental Stores are UL Listed and are typically treated like a large pieces of equipment.  Since you are not building anything, you should not have to pull a building permit for the Store.  You will probably, however, have to pull “Over the Counter” permits for the installation of the Electrical Jockey Box and the plumbing for Site Preparation.  The PIVOT Product Guides should be submitted to your local codes department to assist them in understanding this Rental Store.

2.

HEALTH PERMIT

You will need a Health Permit to operate your Starbucks Rental Store.  If you are in need of a Rental Store due to renovation or closure of your permanent Starbucks Store, you will have a Health Permit already for your existing Store.  We recommend running the Rental Store under that Health Permit.  When you contact your local codes department, please make sure you call the Rental Store a “Temporary Service Counter” and that you are moving service to that counter temporarily until your renovation is complete.  You should always try to run under your existing Health Permit before attempting to pull a new permit.  If you have to pull a new permit (i.e. Pre New Store Opening), please allocate enough time to obtain your permit prior to the Installation of your Rental Store.
