Building and Health Permitting

It is your responsibility to abide by all code requirements for the jurisdiction that this Starbucks Rental Store will reside and to contact your local codes department for permitting (if applicable).

This Starbucks Rental Store was designed as a large piece of food service equipment.  As such, the Carts that make up this Starbucks Store are UL Listed in both the United States and Canada and are labeled as such.  Since these Carts are UL Listed, your Building Code/Permitting should be contained to your site preparation (i.e. Electrical Jockey Box and Plumbing (if applicable) as the Carts will simply plug into that Jockey Box during installation.

There are hundreds of installation of Starbucks Carts in jurisdictions all across the United States and Canada.

PIVOT and Starbucks takes NO responsibility with obtaining local permits nor adhering to all requirements for all jurisdictions.  The “Recommendations” below should be used for GUIDANCE only.  It is your responsibility to meet all of the requirements in your local jurisdiction and obtain all necessary permits for the installation and operation of the Starbucks Rental Store.

RECOMMENDATIONS

3-Compartment Sink

Your Starbucks Rental Stores does not come with a 3-Compartment Sink.  For Health Code, you will need access to a 3-Comparment Sink for ware washing.  This can be a sink in the back of house, adjacent department (i.e. Deli Department) or somewhere close to where you would like your Starbucks Rental Store installed.  You should check with your local Health Code for additional requirements prior to placing your Reservation to ensure compliance.

Ice Machine

Your Starbucks Rental Stores does not come with an Ice Machine.  All three Rental Stores (Standard, Standard Plus and Enhanced) have integrated ice bins.  You will need to supply ice that meets “Starbucks Specifications” to operate your Rental Store.

New Health Permit

If you are Renting a Starbucks Rental Store in support of a Renovation, there is a good chance you can operate this Rental Store under your EXISTING HEALTH PERMIT.  As a first step, you should try that approach before applying for a new Health Permit.  The Starbucks Rental Store utilizes the same equipment and serves the same menu offering (although a subset of that menu) as your permanent Starbucks Store.

“Temporary Service Counter”

When you look to operate this Starbucks Rental Store under your existing Health Permit, we recommend you call this Rental Store a “Temporary Service Counter”.  Avoid using terms like new store, kiosk, mobile food truck, carts, etc. as this may cause confusion and require you to pull a new Health permit for this Rental Store.

Building Permit

Your Starbucks Rental Store is like a large piece of equipment that is UL Listed in the United States and Canada.  The utilities are plug-n-play like a Washing Machine, Espresso Machine, etc.  Since you are not building anything with regards to the Rental Store, you should not be required to pull a Building Permit for the store itself just as if you are installing a Dishwasher.  You will probably be required to pull a Permit for Installation of the Jockey Box (which is just a Receptacle) and your plumbing rough-in.  We find that in most jurisdictions these are “over the counter” permits.

For your Permits, we recommend that you provide the complete PIVOT Product Guides that corresponds to your Starbucks Rental Store along with a short narrative of how you will address back of house (BOH) requirements including; 3 compartment sink, hand wash sink, dry storage, ice production, refrigerated and frozen storage.

You can find the PIVOT Product Guides on the respective Carts Product pages or simply click on the shortcut links below (for the Standard Rental Store).  The Product Guides also contain Product Cutsheets for all Equipment in your Starbucks Rental Store (in the appropriate Appendix of the Product Guide).
